Oberwirbach is a district of the town of Bad Blankenburg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

The highest district of the city of Bad Blankenburg is located south of the city and can be reached via the K177 district road and the village's feeder road . The village, which is located on a high plateau in the Thuringian Slate Mountains , is surrounded by free usable areas and mainly forest. There are ravine-like slopes not far from the village.

history

The first documentary mention of the high Thuringian forest village has been in existence since February 17, 1286. The village church dates from the 13th century. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

economy

The slate pen (stylus) production was a line of business. There are several quarries in the area. There was and is limited agricultural activity. Forestry work dominates.
