Carl Larsson Kämpe (* 1738 in Nårunga , Sweden, † 1816 in Kaflås near Tidaholm , Sweden) was a Swedish philosopher, librarian and Swedish royal chancellery.

Life

Kämpe studied philosophy at Uppsala University from 1756-64 and graduated with a master's degree. In 1768 he entered the service of the Royal Library in Stockholm ( Kungliga biblioteket ). He received the title of Royal Secretary in 1782, became expedition secretary to the Swedish Foreign Ministry in 1799 and became chancellery in 1809. In terms of cultural history, he became a travel companion for a large number of descendants of Swedish aristocratic families on their Grand Tour through continental Europe, which he also supervised during their studies at universities such as the one in Göttingen. His pupils included members of the Swedish aristocratic families Bonde , Hildebrand, Löwenhielm, Piper, Ramel and af Sandeberg. During these trips he made contact with numerous prominent figures in intellectual life and politics, but also with students and officials of his time, who are recorded in his two surviving family books . The two family books are now kept in the Stifts- och Landsbibliotek in Skara . They have a term starting with the first entry on June 9, 1774 in Lübeck to the last entry by the Danish librarian Rasmus Nyerup on June 28, 1810. In between there are over 500 entries from entries in Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. His studbooks are among the outstanding studbooks in Sweden and also represent a remarkable collection of autographs from the second half of the 18th century beyond Sweden .

As a trusted advisor to Reich Marshal Hans Henrik von Essen , he was buried in the family funeral of the von Essen family in Hömbs kyrka in Hömbs near Tidaholm.
