The name Watzdorf first appeared in a document in 1137 on the occasion of the enfeoffment of the knight and bailiff Conradus de Wazdorf on the Greifenstein with the nearby Watzdorf by Count Sizzo III. from Schwarzburg. Conrad founded the family of lords, barons and counts von Watzdorf , which was important in Saxon history . In 1261 the place Watzdorf was first mentioned in a document.
