Sizzo III. von Schwarzburg-Kevernburg (also Syzzo, * approx. 1093; † June 19, 1160 ) was Count of Schwarzburg and from 1141 also Count of Kevernburg . He is the progenitor of the House of Kevernburg-Schwarzburg.

Life

There is uncertainty about his parentage. He is either the only son of Count Günther I von Schwarzburg and Mechthild von Kiev, daughter of Prince Jaropolk (heiress of Beichlingen ), or - according to Hans Patze - son of Count Sizzo II.

It can be proven that the count called himself Count von Schwarzburg for the first time. This is proven by a document from the year 1123 by the Archbishop of Mainz Adalbert I of Saarbrücken .

Sizzo was the owner of the Kevernburg (today Käfernburg ) southeast of Arnstadt and the Schwarzburg . He also acquired Blankenburg (Greifenstein).

In 1143 he founded a Cistercian monastery near Altenbergen , which he subordinated to his nephew Eberhard from Morimond . Bishop of Naumburg Udo I protested against the establishment and demanded that it be relocated, which resulted in the Georgenthal Monastery .

In 1157 he moved with the Hohenstaufen against Poland .
