Günther II. (Schwarzburg-Käfernburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Count Günter II of Kevernburg (Käfernburg-Schwarzburg) and Hallermund (* between 1129 and 1135; † 1197 ) was the younger son of Count Sizzo III. von Schwarzburg-Käfernburg with Gisela von Berg (married around 1120), possible daughter of Count Adolf I von Berg († around 1106) and Adelheid von Kleve, daughter of Count Dietrich I.

Life

After the death of his father, he and his brother Heinrich I took over the inheritance. Only after years of hereditary war did he become Count of Kevernburg. How it came into the possession of the lords of Wiehe and Grafschaft Rabenswalde - with whom it was enfeoffed - is unknown. He continued to argue with his brother, even with the stronger Landgrave of Thuringia and other neighbors, and moved several times with Emperor Frederick I of Italy .

In 1184, after the childless death of his brother Heinrich I, he inherited the Schwarzburg and left it to his older son Heinrich II , the founder of the Schwarzburg line .

In 1191 he became Count of Loccum-Hallermund .
