Kleingölitz is a district of the city of Bad Blankenburg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

Kleingölitz is located at the foot of the boiler walls in a hollow that is demarcated by small hills to the south of the federal highway 88 from Bad Blankenburg to Königsee . The village to the north is easily and quickly accessible from the B88. The shell limestone walls create a particularly mild microclimate due to the south-facing slope. However, they are also locations remote from the groundwater, which is offset by higher rainfall in this foothill area.

Neighboring places

Neighboring towns are Watzdorf and Leutnitz to the south , Großgölitz and Thälendorf to the west and the city of Bad Blankenburg to the east.

history

Otto Modersohn : Kleingölitz before the thunderstorm , 1912

About 90 people currently live in the area at the foot of the boiler walls. The two Gölitz locations were built in the 11th or 12th century. The place names come from the Slavic language and mean "Heide" (Gölitz).

The first documented mention of both villages is on December 11, 1362.

Viticulture has been known since the 13th century, and the cultivation of lavender must probably have started around this time; hence the tradition of the lavender festival in Bad Blankenburg probably originated. The villages are counted as part of the Thuringian herb garden. From this it can be concluded that special and special crops thrive well in this favorable natural location. The villages were probably kitchen villages of the castle and the city. Until 1918, both places belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
