Großgölitz is a district of the city of Bad Blankenburg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .
Geography and geology
Groß- and Kleingölitz are in a hollow at the foot of the Kesselberg walls . They are separated from the federal highway 88 in the south by small hills . From the B 88, which leads from Bad Blankenburg to Königsee , the villages are easily accessible via local roads. The limestone slopes result in a particularly mild climate. But there are also locations remote from the groundwater. This deficit compensates for the wetter foothills with higher rainfall.
Neighboring places
Neighboring places are south of Watzdorf and Leutnitz , west of Thälendorf and east of Kleingölitz and the city of Bad Blankenburg.
history
The first documentary mention of both places was on December 11, 1362. The settlements are said to have existed since the 11th or 12th century. The viticulture would have taken place since the 13th century. At the same time, lavender cultivation was probably introduced. This is where the traditional lavender festival in Bad Blankenburg comes from. The villages are counted as part of the “Thuringian herb garden”. Therefore one can count the places as former kitchen villages for the castle Greifenstein and later for the city u. a. Until 1918, both places belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . One church was mentioned as early as the 12th century, today's Großgölitz village church essentially dates from the 14th century.
economy
The place has always been oriented towards agriculture and forestry with a view to special crops. There are opportunities for relaxation and hiking.
