The mass is a 5.5 km long left tributary of the Schwarza in the Thuringian Slate Mountains .

The source of the mass is 735  m above sea level. NHN approx. 3.5 km north of Masserberg near the swallow's head in the Hildburghausen district . The river flows into the Schwarza in Oelze , a district of the municipality of Katzhütte in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt .
