Weißig, together with Gorlitzsch and Schafpreskel, forms the 4.59 hectare district of Weißig in the city of Gera in Thuringia with a total of 201 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).
geography
The district is located in the southwest of the city of Gera on the border with Hundhaupten ( Greiz district ).
history
Historically, Weißig belonged to Reuss younger line and was first mentioned in a document in 1533. The Zeulsdorf manor was entitled to inheritance jurisdiction and patronage rights over Weißig until 1855 . The origin of the place was a chapel located at the intersection of two trade routes. In addition to the so-called Erbschenk, there were two free horse jobs and five jobs that had to do hand fronts. In 1827 the place had 18 houses and 81 inhabitants. The former school location was Dürrenebersdorf .
The kindergarten, sports field and youth club had to be given up after 1990, and consumption and post offices were also closed. In return, the pond and the village square were redesigned and a club house built.
On July 1, 1950, Gorlitzsch sheep prescles were incorporated into Weißig. As part of the regional structural reform at the beginning of the nineties, the municipality was given the alternative of being incorporated into Gera or Münchenbernsdorf ; the majority of the population opted for Gera, so that Weißig, with Gorlitzsch and sheep prescles, has been part of the city of Gera since July 1, 1994.

Attractions
- Church in Weißig , extensively renovated from 2001.
- The organ in the church in Weißig is the work of Christian Ernst Friederici (1709–1780), who learned his trade in particular from Gottfried Silbermann. It was built in 1740 for the castle chapel in Lichtenstein / Saxony. In 1801 the parish of Weißig acquired this valuable, small baroque organ positive for their church. This instrument is most likely the only surviving instrument of this type from Friederici. In addition, it is currently one of his oldest instruments, possibly his Opus 2. Due to its age, its uniqueness and its proportion of original substance, it is of great monumental value. The instrument was restored in 2010.
