geography

history

Lessen was first mentioned in a document on May 23, 1364 in connection with the pledging of the Langenberg house as Leczkow. In other well-known documents the place Losczan , later Leussowe , Leusten (1533) or Lössen (1564) is mentioned. The parish and school location for centuries was Großaga. - A former castle "Der Bühl" with a tower hill used to exist northwest of the village (documented in 1364). Today only the castle hill can be seen.

Lessen did not have a knightly or freehold estate , only a parish fiefdom (sheep management), which is still managed today. Even under the agricultural standards of the GDR , the von Lessen farmers managed to maintain a high degree of independence. In 1827 the place had 22 houses and 114 inhabitants.

On July 1, 1950, Lessen was incorporated into the new municipality of Aga.
