history

First mentioned in a document on May 23, 1364 in a Langenberg pledge, it was, in contrast to the surrounding villages of Sorbian origin in the surrounding area, a sprawling street village of German settlers. A number of pieces of land and a farm belonged to the monastery of the Holy Cross in Saalburg as interest land . The inheritance jurisdiction over Wernsdorf was until 1855/1856 for 4 houses to the manor Cretzschwitz and for 12 houses to the manor Söllmnitz . The responsible school location used to be the neighboring village of Hirschfeld (today the district of Greiz ), from 1839/40 a school was built in the village, to which the children from Söllmnitz and Lauenhain also went.

In 1979 Wernsdorf was incorporated into the neighboring Söllmnitz, and in 1994 together with it to Gera.

politics

Since 1994 there has been a local council (formerly local council) for the localities of Cretzschwitz and Söllmnitz with Wernsdorf and Lauenhain. The district mayor has been Peter Zingel (independent) since June 2014.
