Frankenthal was incorporated into the city of Gera (Thuringia) on October 1, 1923. From 2010 it formed together with Scheubengrobsdorf the district Frankenthal / Scheubengrobsdorf with a total of 1741 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011); since 2014 it has been part of the new Westvororte district .

Frankenthal is located in the Saarbachtal in the west of the city of Gera on the border with Töppeln in the district of Greiz .

history

Frankenthal is from its layout a street village of German foundation with a manor that can be regarded as the origin of the place. The first documented mentions date from 1460 and 1517. The not very large estate only had inheritance jurisdiction over part of Frankenthal. In 1637 it fell to the Reuss rulership, and the right of patronage went alternately to the respective manor owners of Töppeln and Scheubengrobsdorf. In 1827 the place had a manor, 48 houses and 265 inhabitants. Frankenthal was also the parish for Ernsee, Scheubengrobsdorf, Windischenbernsdorf and Töppeln . 1864 the Reussian-Protestant parish Frankenthal Ernsee , Töppeln , Scheubengrobsdorf and Windischenbernsdorf as well as the branch church Mühlsdorf included . In August 1981, after heavy rainfall, there was a devastating flood of the Saarbach.

Frankenthal Manor

The manor Frankenthal was a little diet capable manor and stood since 1637 under the state rule Reuss jL was associated with the ownership of the manor, the patrimonial jurisdiction in the form of Erbgerichtsbarkeit over part of the village Frankenthal . Attractions

The church , built 1728–1732 as a replacement for a previously existing All Saints Chapel from 1517. The tower dates from 1736, the organ from 1749. In 1933, the German Christians put a swastika on the top of the spire. Gauleiter Sauckel was removed again in 1939.

A comprehensive renovation took place in 1970, and further smaller ones since 1990.

Frankenthal and Scheubengrobsdorf have formed a district of the city of Gera with its own district council since 2010 . Erik Buchholz (independent) was elected mayor of Frankenthal / Scheubengrobsdorf on September 26, 2010 and was re-elected on May 25, 2014. When the new main statutes of the city of Gera came into force on June 1, 2014, Frankenthal and Scheubengrobsdorf were combined with Windischenbernsdorf to form the Westvororte district .

Landesstraße 2324 leads into town from Bundesstraße 2. There is a public transport connection with GVB line 17 or RVG line 222. The closest train stations are Gera Süd and Töppeln .

Culture

Volunteer Fire Brigade Frankenthal and Fire Brigade Association Frankenthal e. V. - In the past few years the fire station has been renovated and expanded. The highlight of the club life is the annual maypole setting.

Sports

TSV Gera-Westvororte with headquarters and venue in Scheubengrobsdorf. Sports offered: soccer, volleyball, gymnastics and Zumba.
