geography

Rusitz is located on a plateau in the northwest of the city of Gera .

history

Rusitz as Sorbian origin is likely to have been founded before the 12th century, but was first mentioned as Rositz in 1533 . The place name is likely to go back as * Rusici from rusy 'reddish, blond' and denote the place of the “people of the redhead”.

On July 1, 1950, Rusitz was incorporated into the community of Roben and, together with it, was reclassified to the city of Gera on April 1, 1994.

Rusitz is the smallest of the three villages that make up the district of Roben. The large four-sided courtyards are characteristic of the townscape . During the GDR era, an IRMA (large-scale system for industrial cattle fattening) was located in the village from 1975. In the 1990s, an industrial area on the former cattle fattening facility and the new building area In den Hopfenwiesen were designated in the village, the settlement of which doubled the population of the village within a few years. Even after the fall of the Wall, the town was able to keep its agricultural character thanks to two large agricultural businesses.

politics

Rusitz was incorporated into the city of Gera on April 1, 1994, together with Roben. Since then, the place, together with Roben and stone bridges, has formed the district of Roben of the city of Gera with its own local constitution and local council (until II / 2009 local council) . Karin Conradi (CDU) has been the local mayor since 1994.
