history

Kaimberg was probably founded during the Sorbian settlement period. The oldest known documentary mentions of the old knight seat Kaimberg are 1333 Kaime , 1362 czu Keym , 1387 czu Kayn . The German ending -berg is much more recent; In 1533 it was recorded as a Keinperg . The place name derives from came , stone 'ago, the -i - / - was probably y - similar to the nearby places Paitzdorf and Raitzhain - originally a stretch mark. The manor can be assumed to be the core of the settlement, which encompassed the greater part of the district.

The Kaimberg branch church has belonged to the Thränitz -Kaimberg- Collis - Zschippern parish since the 12th century , although each of these places belonged to a different state. The three villages phorte (Pforten), kols (Collis) and keime (Kaimberg) fell to the Gera Vogt in 1328. Originally the main town was Pforten , around 1500 this becomes Kaimberg, so the Lords of Kaimberg also get jurisdiction over the surrounding villages (until 1850 or 1852). The trial files still exist about the murder of the shepherd's wife Kraft von Kaimberg, who was first bloody slain by her husband in 1748 and then strangled. After the verdict, the old Kaimberg sheep farm was also demolished as the site of the gruesome bloodshed.

The stately knight's seat of the Lords of Kaimberg, which was formerly located high above the town and resided in the town until 1852, was demolished by a later owner, a Kommerzienrat Schmidt from Altenburg, and replaced by a new building. A detailed description of the former manor can be found in the purchase and basic notice of the Kaimberg manor from 1741. A brewery is documented as early as the 16th century, along with viticulture and a brick factory.

From 1946 to 1949, the expropriated manor was a resettlement home , and new farmer positions were also built on the estate . From 1949 to 1970 it was used as a diet sanatorium Gera-Kaimberg (with 70 places), after which it housed the district academy for health and social affairs until 1990.

In earlier times, the responsible school location was Thränitz, which was already in Saxony . As the school there became too small over the years, a separate school building was built in Kaimberg and handed over to its intended use at Easter 1871. Today there is a vocational school for health professions here.

On July 1, 1950, Kaimberg was incorporated into Gera.

Attractions

The originally late Gothic Kaimberg church from the 15th century, in the middle of the former estate park and cemetery, was redesigned in 1753 and supplemented with a free-standing pulpit. The bells date from 1501 and 1620.

The current castle-like structure of the Kaimberg manor dates from the end of the 19th century.

The old dance hall was built at the end of the 19th century and initially served as an event hall or village community center with a restaurant and a stage extension, later also as a gym. A saddlery was located there until 1994. After extensive renovation, the first swingers club in Thuringia has been located there since May 3rd, 1996 .

politics

Kaimberg has no district constitution, therefore no district council and no district mayor .
