The West suburbs are an official part of the city since 2014 Gera , consisting of the located on the western outskirts places Frankenthal , Scheubengrobsdorf and Windisch Bernsdorf .

history

Frankenthal, Scheubengrobsdorf and Windischenbernsdorf were incorporated into Gera in 1923. In 2010, Frankenthal and Scheubengrobsdorf were merged under a common local district constitution . On September 26, 2010, the Frankenthal / Scheubengrobsdorf district elected its first district councilor, and Erik Buchholz also elected its first district mayor . In 2014, when Windischenbernsdorf joined, the Westvororte district was created . In April 2014 the main statute of the city of Gera was changed and on September 14, 2014 a joint district council and district mayor - again Erik Buchholz - was elected. The name "Westvororte" as a comprehensive name for the westernmost districts of Gera was, for example, in use by the sports club TSV Gera-Westvororte based in Scheubengrobsdorf .

Place and landscape

The three places emerged as street villages in the Saarbach valley . The stream reaches the urban area of Gera, coming from Geißen , in a west-east direction. Between Windischenbernsdorf and Scheubengrobsdorf it makes a bend and now flows in a north-westerly direction to Frankenthal, then leaves the city again and flows into the Erlbach in Töppeln .

Thanks to new buildings in the second half of the 20th century, Frankenthal, Scheubengrobsdorf and Windischenbernsdorf have almost completely grown together today. The settlement structure consists largely of traditional village architecture and modern single-family houses. Scheubengrobsdorf also includes the old new residential area "Scheibe" , which was built in the early 1960s .
