Adam Ferdynand Adamowicz (born July 6, 1802 in Vilnius , † April 30, 1881 ibid) was a Polish physician and one of the pioneers of Polish veterinary medicine . He is also considered the founder of Polish comparative anatomy .

Life

Adam Ferdynand Adamowicz was born on July 6, 1802 in Vilnius and studied philosophy , medicine and veterinary medicine from 1818 at the University of Vilnius , where he obtained a doctorate in medicine in 1824 . In the following years he went on research trips as a research assistant. In 1834 he returned to Vilnius and was first associate professor and in 1835 full professor at the Medical and Surgical Academy. He taught epizootiology and comparative anatomy . From 1839 until the academy closed, he taught history of medicine and medical literature.

From 1841 he was president of the medical society and in 1842 became a doctor at the Jewish hospital, although he was a Protestant himself . In 1857 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
