Geißen (official spelling 1939 Geissen ) is a district of Saara in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .
Geißen is located to the west of the city of Gera on state road 1076, which leads to the west, towards federal motorway 9 with a connection at Hermsdorf . The municipal area of the district is a hilly plateau with steep slopes and forest.
history
The district was first mentioned in a document on November 9, 1121. On July 1, 1950, Geißen was merged with Großsaara and Kleinsaara to form the new municipality of Saara. 180 people live in the district.
