The branch church of Geißen is located in Geißen , a district of Saara in the Greiz district in Thuringia . The parish belongs to the parish area of ​​the village church St. Gangloff in the parish of Gera of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The hall church has a late Romanesque choir tower and a semicircular apse with an apse calotte . On the top floor of the church tower there are biforias on the east side, they are walled up on the north side, and a triforium on the south side . All are with octagonal columns , chalice block, cube capitals and pointed arches . Small bulges are inlaid in the keystones of the arches of the triforium . In 1756/57 the nave was rebuilt and an extension for the patronage box was built in the west , as can be seen from the name on the portal in the south. Major renovations were made in 1831 and 1881 . On the south side of the nave there are remains of a medieval portal. The nave has a ceiling with coves decorated with stucco . There are galleries on three sides. Under the western gallery there are two prizes for the upscale stands . The pulpit altar in the choir consists of pilasters , cranked beams and a blown tail gable with putti . The polygonal pulpit with a rocaille containing an inscription . A curved sound cover hovers above it . The structure is marbled white, the plastic details are set off with gold. On both sides of the altar there are arched passages with a crown . The pulpit altar and a delicate, three-legged frame for the baptismal font with a removable desk lid were donated by Gera citizens in 1757 and 1758, respectively. The winged altar dates from the beginning of the 16th century. On the Altar are Madonna and Child , the Holy Giles and Erasmus presented in the central shrine, as well as the St. Barbara and Catherine on the wings. The predella depicts the adoration of the kings . On the outside of the wing there are paintings of St. Nicholas and Aegidius. The stone antependium from 1605 has three blind arcades , labeled with biblical quotations. On the west gallery there is an organ with 10 stops , divided into a manual and a pedal , which was built in 1838 by Karl Ernst Poppe . The bell was cast in 1488.
