A crown , also known as an ornamental gable, is the upper limit of a component in the fine arts and architecture . In particular, a decorative structure there or an ornament is addressed.

Crowns played an important role in 19th century architectural theory. In the German-speaking world, publications by Karl Bötticher (1806–1889) and Gottfried Semper (1803–1879) are particularly influential.
