Großsaara is a district of the municipality Saara in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .

Großsaara is located in a valley west of the city of Gera on state road 1076 to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz .
history
The village was first mentioned on December 24, 1387.
From 1611 to 1861 there was a manor Großsaara, which was in the hands of several families. The Kleinsaaraer Gut was also subject to this estate. In 1729 the estate acquired the Reuss-Gera rule . On July 1, 1950, Großsaara merged with Geißen and Kleinsaara to form the new municipality of Saara.
