The Reuss-Gera area

The territory of the former county, also called Reuss-Gera, consisted of the core area around Gera and the exclaves Triebes , Hohenleuben and Pohlen .

With the extinction of the Gera dynasty in 1802, the former Gera rule was administered jointly by the three remaining ruling (sovereign) branches of the younger line Schleiz , Lobenstein and Ebersdorf until October 1, 1848.

With the unification of the entire territories of the younger line in the hands of the Schleizer branch and the subsequent establishment of the Principality of Reuss younger line on October 1, 1848 under the rule of the Schleizer branch, the Gera rule, which was formally existing until 1848, was dissolved in the newly founded principality. In the same year the city of Gera became the capital of the principality and residence of the ruling Prince Reuss junior line from the Schleiz branch.
