Naulitz is the smallest district of the independent city of Gera in Thuringia .

geography

Naulitz is located in the east of Gera on federal road 7 in the direction of Ronneburg . The Lammsbach rises in the district and flows over the Gessenbach into the Weisse Elster . On the outskirts there are diabase deposits of volcanic origin, the mining has been stopped.

history

South of the local situation of Naulitz is on the Glockenberg the Naulitzer Schanze , an early German castle . It was explored in 1929 and therefore served as a refuge for the village population. The place, which was taken over by the German settlers and was still laid out around a pond in the original Slavic round shape, was called Nuwelicz , Nueliz , Nueliz or Naulis .

The oldest known mention of the place dates back to March 5, 1291. It mentions a knight Henrico de Nuweliz and his new wife Hedwig von Mosen , whose marriage was recognized by Pope Nicholas IV (!) And who commissioned the Bishop of Naumburg, retrospectively to grant the marriage dispensation. This family, identified as the local nobility, can be traced back to 1354, the associated manor was abolished before the Reformation. Until the church visitation in 1533 there was a chapel in Naulitz, the parish was closed after this visitation and the church property was transferred to the parish in Ronneburg. Until 1918 Naulitz belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . At the end of the fifties, the Naulitz farmers and farm workers founded the LPG Frieden ; in the early sixties it was merged with the LPG Wilhelm Pieck in nearby Kauern . The LPG was the main employer for the few residents of the place until the fall of the Wall.

Culture and sights

  • The center of village life is formed by the volunteer fire brigade , a local group of the people's solidarity and the Heimatverein Naulitzer Schanzen eV
  • The Naulitzer Schanze is located southwest of the town center, and the ground monument is the remains of a former two-part castle. The walls and ditches of the former enclosure can still be seen today. A previously used chapel on this area later fell into disrepair, a separate church with a bell tower was built in the village, the oldest bells of which date from the 14th century and probably come from this chapel.
  • The morgue and syringe house formerly stood in Schmirchau and was moved to Naulitz when this place was relocated as part of the uranium ore mining. Until the renovation in 2001, the building was used simultaneously as a funeral hall and fire department garage for the volunteer fire department. The fire brigade's rooms were then relocated to the backdrop barn, a temporary external storage facility for the Geraer Bühnen.
  • In 2006 the association "Naulitzer Schanzen eV" took over the scenery warehouse in lease and has since expanded it into the cultural center of Naulitz.

politics

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community Naulitz was incorporated into Ronneburg . On July 1, 1994, at the request of the residents, the move to the city of Gera took place, a district council was formed, and the district mayor has been Harry Schmidt (independent) since 1994.

education

The rainbow day care center is located in the neighboring town of Gera-Thränitz . According to the school network plan of the city of Gera, the Geraer Bergschule was designated as a primary school and the Eastern School as a regular school.

  2. The tradition, which began relatively late, does not allow a reliable interpretation of the name; however, by analogy with place names known from the Baltic Slavonic , it can be associated with a personal name Noval (novy = new) as * Novalici .
