Bieblach is a district of Gera , northeast of Gera's city center.
history
Bieblach was first mentioned in 1322 under the name Weblok . It housed a manorial sheep farm that can be traced back to the 16th century.
In 1904 the community of Bieblach, after having suffered great financial burdens due to the strong population increase in the course of industrialization, started negotiations with the Gera city council about incorporation into the city of Gera, which was finally carried out on October 1, 1905. Bieblach was thus the first municipality to be incorporated into Gera. At that time it had 521 inhabitants.
For the miners of the Wismut in neighboring Ronneburg , the new building area Bieblach (also Am Bieblacher Hang ) was built in the mid-1950s as the first industrially planned and built residential area in today's Thuringian area. The first residential high-rise buildings in Gera were built here, the first of which was handed over on July 14, 1965. Numerous street names with references to miners (Glück-Auf-Weg, Erzhammerweg, etc.) are reminiscent of Bieblach's past as a miners' settlement. As part of a socialist model district, Bieblach received not only the apartment blocks, but also a polyclinic, two parks, department stores and a restaurant. All components of this infrastructure have retained their original purpose to this day. In addition, schools, kindergartens and crèches were set up for the many young families. Other imaginary facilities such as a cinema or swimming pool were no longer built, although there were vacant lots for them for a long time.
In the 1980s, the new development area Bieblach-Ost was built north-east of Bieblach, which was no longer completed due to the fall of the Wall. With reunification, only the buildings that had already started were completed. At the request of the residents of Bieblach at the time, the two residential areas were separated in terms of traffic. The actual district of Bieblach is therefore often referred to as Alt-Bieblach , although that was actually only the name for the existing buildings in the area of the former sheep farm before 1950.
