history

Lietzsch was first mentioned in documents in 1501. The place is a typical square village of Sorbian foundation. Historically part of the Kingdom of Saxony , Lietzsch was subordinate to the Borna office , and from 1832 to the Werdau office . The responsible parish and school location was Liebschwitz . During the Napoleonic Wars in 1806, two plundering French soldiers were shot by angry farmers in Lietzsch. For a long time, large parts of the land in Lietzsch belonged to the von Ziegenhierd family, who lived on the Liebschwitz manor and who successfully intervened against the transfer of their estate to Prussia after the Peace of Vienna in 1815. The so-called Ziegenhierdsche Ländchen (Liebschwitz, Lietzsch, Lengefeld and Taubenpreskel ) remained with the Kingdom of Saxony. In 1928 the aqueduct was built. Assigned to Thuringia through the exchange of land between Thuringia and Saxony in 1928, Lietzsch belonged to the former district of Gera until it was incorporated into Gera, which took effect on July 1, 1950 .
