Rubitz , together with Thieschitz and Milbitz, forms the 5.3 hectare Milbitz / Thieschitz / Rubitz district of the city of Gera in Thuringia with 656 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).
geography
Rubitz is located in the northwest of the city of Gera in the Erlbach Valley .
geology
As in Milbitz and Thieschitz, there were also smaller silver ore veins alongside the village of Rubitz , which were mined in the Middle Ages. More geologically and historically worth mentioning, however, is the so-called Geraer gloss earth , which Johann Friedrich Blumenbach described in his Handbuch der Naturgeschichte : “A special variant is the loose gloss earth or foam earth from Rubitz bey Gera, which is characterized by an almost lime-like appearance and its own matt silver sheen . ” There is also a note about it in Goethe's diary from July 1, 1808: “ Early in the morning at the Ziegesars who went to Franzensbad, because we were saying goodbye. Afterwards busy with letters. Came Chamber Councilor von Flanz from Gera, with Dr. Jani and his son. There was particular talk of the Geraic foaming earth and its occurrence near Rubitz, not far from Gera, its discovery by a merchant who first had the ceilings of his rooms sealed with it. "
history
Rubitz was first mentioned in 1147 as a fiefdom Roboce of the Zeitz cathedral chapter. Later mentions are: 1304 and 1308 de Robuz , 1338 in Robitz , 1405 de Robicz . The place name is based on the Slavic form Robušj- , which indicates the "possession of a Robuš" (from rob = servant). The neighboring Thieschitz has always been the school and church location for Rubitz.
In earlier times there was a small castle complex with a tower and a surrounding moat to the northwest of the village on the corridor of the Cosse. Remnants of the wall and the tower hill can still be seen. The desert church , a former castle with ramparts and road barriers at the exit of the Schafgrund in the direction of Oelsdorfmühle, points to a further settlement .
Rubitz was incorporated into the city of Gera on January 1, 1919.
The Rubitz gymnasium , inaugurated on January 16, 1906, was built by the now defunct gymnastics club Rubitz eV . It was also used for the school races of the Thieschitzer school children. In 1983 - after the flood damage had been cleared - it was given an extension with a hall, kitchen and sanitary facilities through the residents' own contribution. After the fall of the Wall, the property was transferred to the trust and was left to decay for many years. An already planned demolition could be averted at the last minute by a local company, which established its company premises here.
In 1943 the “thief's oak” at the intersection of Ernsee - Töppeln- Rubitz had to be felled; the age of the tree, which had a trunk circumference of almost 7 meters, was estimated at 550 to 560 years. It owes its name to the fact that it has been a meeting and gathering point for marauding robber gangs over the centuries.
In June 1960 there were two sinkholes with crater depths of 8 and 3 meters in quick succession.
The flood of August 10, 1981 caused devastating damage to the village. It took several lives. 75% of the residential buildings were under water, and several of them had to be demolished in the period that followed.
Rubitz Manor
Over the centuries the place was a manor with changing feudal lords. The Rubitz manor was a manor suitable for the Landtag . The patrimonial jurisdiction in the form of higher and inheritance jurisdiction over 9 subjects in Rubitz was connected with the possession of the manor . In addition, it had inheritance jurisdiction over a further 9 subjects in Rubitz and one subject each in Thieschitz and Töppeln . In 1850, due to a voluntary agreement, jurisdiction was transferred to the state justice office in Gera-Unternmhaus .
The Rubitz manor was owned by the von Schauroth family , from about 1500 by Uttenhofen and since 1596 by Biesenroth . Since 1681 the manor was privately owned by the princely. In 1851 it became part of the Reussian Hausfideikommiss .
The Rubitz estate: On May 3, 1681, Katharina Elisabeth Reuss, widow of the Gera sovereign Heinrich II the Younger Reuss (a son of Heinrich II Posthumus Reuss ), who died in 1670, acquired the estate for 12,000 guilders . She used the estate (from 1866 the Russian chamber estate) as a summer and widow's residence. With the dissolution of the Thuringian small states, the property was handed over to the state. After the Second World War until the early 1970s, it was managed as a state-owned property (VEG). According to legend, there was a picture of Mary in the tenant apartment of the estate, covered in dirt and cobwebs; it was said that if the painting were cleaned, the tenants and cattle would die. The decaying property was demolished in 2010; A retirement home of the ASB Gera has now been built on the site .
