Leumnitz lies east of the city center and forms the eastern edge of the closed urban development of Geras. The old road in the direction of Ronneburg and Altenburg (now Bundesstraße 7 ) is crossed here by the eastern bypass road Geras, which has been accessible since the beginning of 2007.
history
Leumnitz is first mentioned in a document in 1407 as Lewbenicz ; the place name is derived from a Slavic personal name. With 1057 inhabitants it was incorporated into the city of Gera on January 1, 1919.
Leumnitz Manor
The manor Leumnitz was a diet capable manor . The patrimonial jurisdiction in the form of inheritance jurisdiction over Leumnitz was connected with the possession of the manor . The lower jurisdiction was abolished on January 1, 1855.
The manor Leumnitz was already owned by Jakob von Etzdorff († 1546) in 1543 , subsequently his son Friedrich von Etzdorff, colonel and governor of Jena, Eisenberg and Bürgel (1588), and owned by the von Creutz family since 1662 , arrived in 1692 the von Nauendorf family , in 1694 to the von Raschau family , in 1771 to the von Freiesleben family and in 1812 to the Tilly family. In 1821 Haubold von Einsiedel acquired the Leumnitz manor from the merchant Christian Friedrich Tilly. In the summer of 1856, Hermann Ampach bought the manor.
