history

Canadian Tire Branch.

The first Canadian Tire store was opened on September 15, 1922 in Toronto by J. William Billes and Alfred J. Billes. The store was on the corner of Yonge and Isabella Streets. The first store was Hamilton Tire and Garage Ltd. called. The two business partners invested $ 1,800. The first catalog was published in 1928. In 1934, the second branch was opened in Hamilton, Ontario . In 1937 the head office was moved to Yonge Street / Church, where a Canadian tire shop is still located today. In the years that followed, the company's branch network grew continuously to 482 stores.

The company expanded into the United States . In 1980 the company took over the White Auto Store retail chain, which operated primarily in Texas.
