The Canadian company Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. is one of the world's largest operators of convenience shops (French: dépanneur ). Around 15,000 sales outlets are maintained on different continents, about half of which are owned and in the franchising system. These sales outlets have the following brand names: Couche-Tard , Mac’s , Circle K , On the Run , 7-jours , Dairy Mart , Daisy Mart or Winks .
The company was founded in 1980 and has grown regularly through acquisitions of other chains, such as the acquisition of Sept-Jours Convenience Stores (1987), La Maisonnée (1993), Perrette (1994), C-Corp (1997), Provi-Soir ( 1999), Bigfoot stores (2001), The Circle K Corporation (2003), Spectrum (2006) or Motiva Enterprises (2006). Many sales outlets are run as gas stations. Among other things, gasoline is offered under the brands Irving Oil and Shell . In 2012, Alimentation Couche-Tard took over the petrol station chain Statoil Fuel & Retail of the Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil for a purchase price of 2.8 billion US dollars. The roughly 2,800 sales outlets in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe are to be renamed Circle K by 2017 .
The headquarters of Alimentation Couche-Tard is located in Laval in Quebec , there are approximately 100,000 persons employed and the turnover in 2014 about 38 billion US dollars; The founder and managing director is the Canadian Alain Bouchard (* 1949).
