Enbridge is a publicly traded Canadian company headquartered in Calgary that operates the world's largest crude oil and liquids pipeline system in Canada and the United States. The pipeline system is 13,500 km long and transports around 2 million barrels a day . The company is listed in the S & P / TSX 60 share index.

The company was founded as Interprovincial Pipe Line in 1949 and has been called Enbridge Pipelines since 1998 .

Enbridge operates the world's largest pipeline system in Canada and the United States. The company is owned and operated by Enbridge Pipelines Inc. The company also has a 27% stake in Enbridge Energy Partners, LP , which owns Lakehead Systems in the US. The system has been in operation since the 1960s and has a length of 13,500 km. Over 2 million barrels are pumped through the system every day.

Enbridge has a large distribution company. Enbridge Gas Distribution markets natural gas to commercial, residential and resellers in Ontario , Quebec and New York State . Enbridge thus serves more than 2 million consumers.

Enbridge's pipelines allow the failed Keystone XL pipeline to be bypassed. Crude oil from the mining of the Athabasca tar sands is transported in large quantities from Enbridge to refineries in the east and south of the United States.

Projects

Enbridge plans to reorganize its regional pipeline network in Alberta by 2017. By 2019, the 991 km long Sandpiper pipeline from the Bakken Formation to Superior in Wisconsin is to be built.

Renewable energy

Enbridge is involved in four large wind farms. These are located in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. In combination, these achieve an output of 260 megawatts. In 2009 a solar cell park was opened in Sarnia , Ontario, with an output of 80 megawatts. The company invested in the Talbot and Greenwich energy projects in 2009 and 2010.

At the beginning of 2017, Enbridge took a 49.9% stake in the planned Hohe See offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
