Norman Wells is a parish in the Northwest Territory of Canada . The community is part of the Sahtu Region and is just one of four communities in the territory of which the status of a town ( Town ) has. Norman Wells is on the north bank of the Mackenzie River between the Richardson Mountains to the north and the Franklin Mountains to the south.
The municipality is located near the Arctic Circle and, according to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification , there is a subarctic climate (Dfc).
Demographics
The census in 2016 showed a population of 778 inhabitants for the municipality, after the census in 2011 only showed a population of 727 inhabitants for the municipality. The population has increased by 7.0% compared to the last census in 2011 and is thus far above the average of the territory with a population increase of 0.8%.
traffic
The community is difficult to reach by land. However, a road planned during World War II, Canol Road , connects the town with the Alaska Highway . Immediately north of the community is Norman Wells Airport ( IATA airport code : YVQ, ICAO code : CYVQ, Transport Canada Identifier: -) with a 1,828 meter long, paved runway.
