The Franklin Mountains are a mountain range in the Northwest Territories in Canada .
The Franklin Mountains extend 500 km north-south along the right bank of the Mackenzie River . The highest point is the 1570 m high Mount Cap (also called Cap Mountain ) in the south of the mountains. The second highest mountain is Mount Clark in the north of the Franklin Mountains at 1,463 m .
They are named after John Franklin , who almost starved to death in these mountains on his return from his expedition in 1819–1822.
