Patoka is a municipality in Marion County in the US state of Illinois . According to a 2010 census, the small town had a permanent population of 584 residents. The place was founded on July 4, 1854 by James Clark. The place became internationally known for the huge oil depots, which are located between the town and Vernon, Illinois. In these warehouses, the oil from various pipeline projects is temporarily stored or is to be temporarily stored, e.g. From the Dakota Access Pipeline or the Keystone Pipeline .
