History global

CGI was founded in 1976 by entrepreneurs Serge Godin and André Imbeau, then 26 years old. With a customer, a phone and a lot of ambition, the two started the company in the basement of Serge Godin's house.

1976 to 1986

In the first ten years, CGI developed a strategy, a business model and a number of management principles that have led to significant growth and are decisive for the company to this day. CGI developed from a pure consulting company to a company for consulting and system integration services.

Towards the end of this ten-year period, outsourcing IT tasks became more and more of an issue for customers. As a result, CGI developed a strategy to position itself in the growing outsourcing market.

1986 to 1996

In 1986, CGI began acquiring outsourcing companies. To finance this, the company was converted into a public limited company. Through these acquisitions, CGI was able to provide end-to-end IT services, including technology and management consulting, systems integration and IT outsourcing services, to its customers.

1996 to 2006

In 1996 the CGI customer base comprised various world market leaders in our focus industries.

1998 Bell Sygma, which at that time means almost doubling the size of the company.

2001 Takeover of IMRGlobal, which was an important takeover for CGI to establish an international network to provide services.

2004 Takeover of American Management Systems (AMS), among others.

In the era of a rapidly maturing IT industry and increasing globalization and consolidation, CGI focused on implementing the “Build & Buy” growth strategy. This growth strategy pursues both organic growth (“Build”) and growth through takeovers (“Buy”), which is CGI's strategy to this day.

2006 until today

In 2010, CGI acquired Stanley Inc., including its subsidiaries Oberon and Techrizon. The acquisition nearly doubled the size of CGI's US business.

With the merger of CGI's with the Anglo-Dutch economic and technology service provider Logica , CGI made the largest acquisition to date in 2012. The takeover increased the number of employees from 31,000 to 68,000 specialists and thus increased CGI's presence, service capability and expertise in America, Europe and Asia. With this acquisition, CGI became the fifth largest independent IT and business process service provider in the world.

History in Germany

CGI has been represented in Germany since 2004 when it acquired the majority of American Management Systems (AMS). However, through the takeover of the British IT service provider Logica, the German company only achieved the current number of employees and the broad customer and service portfolio.

With the takeover by Logica in 2015, the German company CGI Deutschland Ltd. & Co. KG was created. This was created through the merger of the previous German companies "CGI Information Systems and Management Consultants GmbH", "CGI Deutschland Verwaltungs GmbH (formerly Logica Deutschland Verwaltungs GmbH)", "CGI Holding Deutschland GmbH (formerly Logica Holding Deutschland GmbH)" and " CGI (Germany) GmbH & Co. KG (formerly Logica Deutschland GmbH & Co KG) ”, which has been operating as“ CGI ”since 2014.

History 2006 to 2012

In 2012 the German Logica company is taken over by CGI as part of Logica PLC.

2009 Sale of the German Integrata AG (formerly "Unilog Integrata Training"), which offers training and further education programs

2008 takeover of nordIT

2008 As part of the global brand changeover to "be brilliant together" and a change of name, the German companies operate under the name "Logica"
