The Scotiabank , in French Banque Scotia , is the name under which the Bank of Nova Scotia , Canada's third largest bank , appears in customer transactions. The company is listed on the S & P / TSX 60 Canadian stock index and on the Toronto Stock Exchange . Scotiabank has over 950 branches in Canada and 2000 branches in more than 45 countries. Its headquarters are in Toronto , Ontario . According to Forbes' list of the world's 2000 largest companies, the Bank of Nova Scotia ranks 98th.
history
The Bank of Nova Scotia was founded in Halifax in 1832 . The first branch opened in Windsor (Nova Scotia) and was initially limited to the Atlantic provinces. It wasn't until 1882 that the bank ventured west with its branch in Winnipeg , Manitoba . The branch was later closed, but this move encouraged expansion in the American Midwest to continue.
In 1900 the bank had 38 branches in Canada, the United States and Jamaica when it moved its headquarters from Halifax to Toronto .
