Pier Cesare Bori (born February 3, 1937 in Casale Monferrato , Italy ; † November 4, 2012 in Bologna ) was an Italian religious scholar .

Life

Pier Cesare Bori studied law , biblical studies and Catholic theology . In the 1970s he worked at Giuseppe Alberigo's Institute for Religious Studies in Bologna.

In 1970 he was appointed professor for the history of Christianity and the Church with a special focus on moral philosophy and human rights in globalization at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Bologna , where he had been a lecturer since 1970. Together with Gustavo Gozzi , he led the master’s program “Diritti umani e intervento umanitario” (human rights and humanitarian intervention ). From 2002 to 2007 he was the chairman of the Bachelor in Culture e diritti umani ( Cultures and Human Rights). In 2012 he was awarded the UNESCO Chair for Religious Pluralism and Peace. He has held visiting professorships in the USA, Japan and Tunisia.

He worked on the new “Master en religions et civilizations comparées” at the Faculty of Humanities in Manouba , Tunisia, where he was a guest many times to learn the Arabic language.

Together with a group of students, Una Via , he got involved with the prison inmates of the Dozza, Bologna, and paid special attention to the Maghreb inmates and those pursuing university studies.

Pier Cesare Bori leaves behind an extensive body of publications.

  • Incipit. Cinquant'anni, cinquanta libri (1953–2003) , Marietti 1820, 2005 (50 years, 50 books), wants to explain his intellectual profile.

Most recently he published the Italian version of Terror in the Service of God. The "Spiritual Guide" of the September 11, 2001 assassins , in which a refined Arabic translation of the document can be found:
