Imperial Oil Limited is the second largest Canadian petroleum company headquartered in Calgary , Canada . The company was founded in 1880. The company extracts, processes and sells natural gas and oil . The company is majority- controlled by the US company ExxonMobil with a 69.6% share. 25% is owned by Syncrude Canada Ltd., the world's largest oil producer from oil sands. Imperial Oil operates a network of petrol stations under the Esso and Mobil brands as well as smaller petrol stations with shopping opportunities under the On the Run / Marché Express or Tiger Express brands.

The company headquarters moved from Toronto to Calgary in 2005 . The company is listed in the S & P / TSX 60 share index.
