Metro Inc. is a retail grocery company based in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario . The company is based in Montreal .

A 24/7 metro branch in Toronto.

Metro is the second largest grocer in Ontario and Québec after the Loblaw Companies . There are currently 243 stores in Quebec and 135 stores in Ontario. However, the branches are always independently and privately run franchise stores.

In addition to the conventional Metro branches, there are other chains affiliated with the company, such as Super C , a discounter with 60 branches in Québec, Metro Plus , the larger metro markets and 142 branches of the Marché Richelieu chain .

In 2007 profits rose 9.3% from 253 mil. CAD (in 2006) to 276.6 mil. CAD (2007).

There is no connection between the Canadian Metro Inc. and the German Metro AG .
