history

The company was founded in 1956. In 1947 the Canadian company George Weston Limited took over the majority of Loblaw Companies .

In 2008 the former national supermarket chain Dominion Stores went through A&P in Loblaw. The name Dominion is still in Newfoundland on license from Metro Inc. used. In 2013, Loblaw Companies took over Shoppers Drug Mart for the equivalent of 9.1 billion euros.
