Power Corporation of Canada is a Canadian group of companies based in Montreal .

The company was founded in 1925 by Arthur J. Nesbitt and his business partner Peter Thompson. 1952, the son Arthur Deane Nesbitt followed to the top of the company. In 1968 the company was sold to the Canadian Paul Desmarais (senior) group. In 2008 the company employed around 15,500 people, in 2020 it was around 30,000.

The Power Corporation of Canada has interests in numerous companies around the world. The investments are bundled in the two groups Gesca and Power Financial Corporation:

• Gesca , Canada; Editor of several newspapers, including La Tribune and Le Soleil in the province of Quebec
• Power Financial Corporation (PFC), Canada (majority interest). For its part, PFC is involved in other companies through three main branches:
  • The Great-West Life Assurance Company (majority stake) and its financial subsidiaries, including Canada Life Financial
  • Via the Dutch holding Parjointco (in which the group Frère-Bourgeois / Compagnie Nationale à Portefeuille of the family of the Belgian multibillionaire Albert Frère holds a majority stake as a minority partner ) in Pargesa Holding . The Pargesa in turn has a controlling interest, among other things, the Groupe Bruxelles Lambert and (indirectly by them or directly) to companies such as Total , GDF Suez , Lafarge and Imerys involved.
  • IGM Financial has interests in other companies through subsidiaries, including the DIY chain Praktiker (5.09%, held by Mackenzie Investments) and SGL Carbon (3.55%, held by Mackenzie Financial Corporation)
