Paul Desmarais

Paul D. Desmarais CC OQ (born January 4, 1927 in Sudbury , Ontario , † October 9, 2013 in Québec ) was a Canadian entrepreneur .

Life

Desmarais graduated from the University of Ottawa and McGill University . Desmarais ran the Canadian company Power Corporation of Canada (PCC). Together with the Belgian Albert Frère he founded the company Pargesa Holding .

According to US Forbes Magazine , Desmarais was one of the richest Canadians and was listed in The World's Billionaires . Desmarais was married and had two sons (Paul Jr. and André) and two daughters (Sophie and Louise). His son André is married to France Chrétien Desmarais, daughter of former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien . Desmarais owned an estate in Sagard, Québec .
