The Scotiabank ( English is) an approximately 300 m below sea level lies submarine bank in the Weddell Sea off the Caird Coast of the East Antarctic Coats country .
It has been named since June 1997 at the suggestion of the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute . It is named after the Scotia , the ship of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902-1904) under the direction of the Scottish polar explorer William Speirs Bruce , whose southernmost point reached coincides with the geographic location of this bank.
