Freeport is a city in Texas , United States. It is located about 80 km south of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico . Freeport is part of Brazoria County .
history
Freeport was founded in 1912 by the Freeport Sulfur Company . The city experienced a strong economic boom from 1940 when Dow Chemical began building chemical plants. In 1957 Freeport was merged with Velasco (Texas) .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city extends over an area of 34.4 km², 3.6 km² of which is water. At Freeport, Texas’s longest river, the Brazos River , at 1,350 km , flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
