District Council

As Ortsteilrat is in Thuringia in accordance with § 45 Thüringer municipal order designates the body of elected officials a local part of a community, for which there is a district constitution. The introduction of district constitutions for individual districts is regulated by the main statutes of the respective fulfilling municipality. The district council advises and decides in accordance with the ThürKO on issues relating to the district; he has the right to take part in an advisory capacity at all meetings of the municipal council and committees relating to the district and to submit appropriate applications. The district mayor is the chairman of the district council . The terms of office of the local councils run i. d. Usually parallel to those of the fulfilling municipality.

The comparable official title in other federal states is u. a. Ortsbeirat or Ortschaftsrat . Until the amendment of the Thuringian municipal code in 2008, the corresponding name was local council in Thuringia as well .
