history

The airfield goes back to the 1926 establishment of the Flugplatz-Verkehrs-AG and the establishment of the Gera-Tinz airfield . The Lufthansa flew this place in the same year six times a week to. It was on the Halle (Saale) - Gera - Plauen route . There were also other connections, for example to Berlin. In 1928 900 passengers were handled. In 1936 the airfield in Tinz had to close because it was on the route of today's federal motorway 4 .

In 1954, today's airfield was first reopened as a glider airfield. From 1957, parachutists also used the place. In 1964 it was approved as a powered airfield. In the 1980s, flight operations came to an almost complete standstill. After the end of the GDR, the FGG - Flugbetriebsgesellschaft Gera mbH was founded in 1991 to operate the airfield. In 1999, the operations of the square were integrated into the Stadtwerke Gera AG holding company. After the insolvency of Stadtwerke Gera, the FGG also had to file for bankruptcy on June 27, 2014, as the Stadtwerke could no longer compensate for the losses at the airport. The airfield was taken over on November 1st, 2014 by the company C&L Systeme LFDU, a private operator.
