The Bad Berka special airfield is located 10 km south of Weimar , about 500 m northwest of the center of Bad Berka .

history

The Bad Berka airfield was opened in 1962 and offered glider pilots in the area around Weimar and Apolda the opportunity to pursue their hobby until 1979. After several escapes from the GDR with airplanes in the summer of 1979, the Bad Berka glider airfield, along with many other GST airfields, was closed for political reasons and could only be reopened in 1990.

Start-and runway

The Special Airfield ( Prior Permission Required, PPR ) has a 700 meter long grass runway.

use

The Bad Berka special airfield has been operated by the Bad Berka Aviation Club since it reopened in 1990. A second hangar has been available since 1999. For glider pilots from many regions in Germany and other countries, it is a popular destination for air camps and cross-country flights.
