The airfield Langensalza is a special airfield classified.
The airfield was built in 1927. As part of the armament of the Wehrmacht , it was expanded by the Air Force in 1937/38 and DFS 230 cargo ships were tested there . From 1940 to 1945 a dive bomber unit , night fighters of the type Ju 88 -G6 and larger training units were stationed here.
The airbase was on 28 April 1945 an armored division of the US Army occupied. The Allies referred to it from then on as Airfield R.78 .
