The airfield Pennewitz (ICAO EDOS) is classified as a special airfield and is located about 0.5  NM north of Pennewitz ( Thuringia ) and is supported by Fliegerclub Ilmenau eV operated.

history

In 1955 , flying with simple school gliders ( SG38 ) began on the Singer Berg . From 1960 you had to move to the apple mountain near Themar , as the area of the Pennewitz airfield had yet to be leveled. In 1961 the current site was opened, and in 1968 the runway was extended to 750 meters.

In 1978 the airfield was closed. After the fall of the Wall , flight operations could be resumed in 1991 . In 1999 and 2000 extensive changes to the terrain took place. With the help of the spoil from the tunnel construction of the Thuringian Forest Motorway, a large depression that ran across the site was leveled. The slope was relocated to the new, straight part and enlarged to the current dimensions.

Since then, more new halls have been built. Above all, the steady growth of the ultralight flight division of the club requires new storage facilities.

Flight operations

The airfield is used exclusively for recreational air traffic. It is not approved for VFR night flights and IFR flight operations. A winch and tow planes are available for glider pilots . The landing site is used by parachutists as a jump area.

The airfield has no runway lights , no handling apron and no gas station . The voice is 130.640  MHz out (Pennewitz INFO).

Training to become a glider , touring motor glider ( TMG ) and microlight pilot ( SPL-F ) is offered on the site.

Aircraft

The airfield may be approached by aircraft with a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of up to 2000 kg (on request up to 5700 kg MTOW) and by helicopters up to 5700 kg MTOW. The site also has an approval for motor gliders , gliders , ultralight aircraft , kites , gliders , free balloons and airships .

The grass runway is 900 meters long and 30 meters wide. Your registration is 06/24. In the direction of RWY06, there are 850 meters of take-off taxi and 750 meters of landing distance. On the RWY24 slope, the situation is reversed accordingly.
