history

The first documentary mention as Cresewicz can be found in a document dated 1121 from the Bosau monastery , which had properties here; later spellings were u. a. Crescuwize (1146), Kreczkewicz (1333) or Kretzschwitz (1533). The place name is derived from a Slavic short name Kreš or its nickname Krešek . The Slavic original form of the place name was therefore * Krešovici (which is reflected in the oldest document from 1121) or * Kreškovici (which the other documents indicate).

In 1827 the place includes the manor, 16 houses and 83 inhabitants. The place parish, trained and buried after Dorna . In 1883 a school was built in Cretzschwitz, from 1950 to 1957 there was a school association with Wernsdorf; the schools are now closed.

Until the end of the 19th century, Cretzschwitz was a farming village with a manor (last owners were the von Brandenstein auf Hain family (today Gera-Hain)). In a description from the 19th century it says: “... a place directed towards Dorna in the church and school, mostly surrounded by forest. Small and friendly indented tetes village of the plateau, 1 hour north of Dorna and ¼ hour above Söllmnitz, on Rießbach and the collision of two Gründchen between wooded hills next six ponds from east to west built and 759 feet high located in the village center. " 1888 the Reussengrube earth color and facing stone factory Gera / Reuss AG founded. It obtained its raw materials from local clay pits and from pits in neighboring Söllmnitz . For better transport of the stones, the plant got its own siding to the Gera-Meuselwitz-Wuitzer Railway (GMWE). In 1946 the mine was first expropriated and dismantled, and in 1948 it was re-registered under the name VEB Reussengrube . Their operation has meanwhile been discontinued.

With the recruitment of workers from the surrounding area and also from Bohemia for the local brickworks, the change from a farming village to an industrial workers' village began around 1900.

From 1953 onwards, the farms were initially merged into a Type 1 LPG , later together with Wernsdorf and Söllmnitz into a Type 3 LPG. It was later divided into an LPG (T) and an LPG (P). Today there is a medium-sized agricultural company with around 20 jobs and an insulation material factory in the village.

On April 1, 1994, the community of Cretzschwitz was incorporated into the city of Gera; since a referendum on April 22, 1994, together with the neighboring towns of Söllmnitz , Wernsdorf and Lauenhain, it forms the Söllmnitz / Cretzschwitz district of the city of Gera .
