The Segantinihütte ( Chamanna Segantini ) is a mountain hut above Pontresina in the Upper Engadin in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It is named after the painter Giovanni Segantini , who died there in September 1899. It is owned by the municipality of Pontresina.
The hut is located on the Schafberg ( Munt da la Bês-cha ) at an altitude of 2731 m . It is easiest to reach in just under two hours from Muottas Muragl , the shortest route is the direct ascent from Pontresina (around two and a half hours).
It is not known when and by whom the hut was built. Around 1899, the year Segantini died, it was probably a sheep hut, because Segantini "lived in a sheepfold, in whose narrow room under the roof he had made a crude bed." It is also conceivable that Giovanni Segantini had it built, who painted his famous Alpine triptych by the hut .
In summer 2009 the hut was enlarged. A storage room with three rooms was built on the mountain side, in which food can be stored. A solar system on the roof is mainly used to operate the refrigerators.
