Hirschbach is a district of Schleusingen in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

geography

Hirschbach is located in a basin at the foot of the Friedberg in the Alder Valley on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest . The Vessertal biosphere reserve begins northeast of the village .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1542 and belonged to the Schleusingen office of the county of Henneberg . The place goes back to the settlement of hammers and mills on the brook of the same name, connected with the surrounding iron ore mining, from the early 16th century. In 1631 there were 22 houses with 28 families.

Without the knowledge of the pastor Weber from St. Kilian, who was responsible for Hirschbach, the Hirschbachers built their own small church in the village under the direction of the mayor Johann Reif and the twelve Egydius Schlott in 1764/65. The reason given was that the prayer hours had previously been held in the Hirschbach inn and were often disturbed by numerous travelers. The Upper Consistory of Dresden subsequently granted the concession for this church building on March 23, 1767.

Around 1850 there were over 200 inhabitants, at that time there were four iron hammers , namely the upper and lower iron hammer and the upper and lower wire hammer. In 1911, Hirschbach became a stop on the Friedbergbahn .

During the Second World War , 27 people, mainly from Poland, had to do forced labor in the agricultural sector in Hirschbach .

After 1815 the place belonged to the Prussian district Schleusingen , after 1945 to the district of Suhl and from 1994 to the district of Hildburghausen . On October 3, 1991, Hirschbach merged with some surrounding communities to form the new community of St. Kilian . This was incorporated into Schleusingen on July 6, 2018.

Among other things, the Rennsteig song was sung in public by Herbert Roth and Waltraut Schulz for the first time on April 14, 1951 in the community hall (today: "Hotel and Gasthof Zum golden Hirsch") .

traffic

The state road 3247 leads through Hirschbach to Schleusingen and Suhl and the L 2634 to Altendambach and Bischofrod .

Erlau , Suhl, Schleusingen and Hildburghausen can be reached every hour on weekdays (sometimes every half hour) on the Werrabus GmbH bus line 200 or 203 . There are individual connections to the other parts of the municipality, except on weekends, via line 809.

The Friedbergbahn has been closed since 1997, but the Dampfbahnfreunde Mittlerer Rennsteig eV plan to use it in museum traffic.
